"Presenting Ourselves: Interpretation of Community Issues and Local Culture,"
scheduled for January 27-28, 1997 in Cincinnati, addresses the ways museums
can use their communities' interests, people, and circumstances as program
subject matter. Speakers include Ivan Karp, Emory University; Portia James
and Sharon Reinckens, Anacostia Museum; Lynda Borque Moss, Western Heritage
Center; and Pauline Fong, Great Lakes Science Center. The program also
includes a "Community Interpretation Exchange" where registrants can share
project materials. Early registration (through January 5, 1997) for AAM
members is $275; $325 thereafter; nonmembers $375. Fellowship support is
