Conference on Collections Environments - Update
An international conference on collections environments, to be held in
September 1997, was previously announced on this and other lists and
in some newsletters. After a thorough review of the issues and of
previous conferences and workshops I came to the conclusion that such
a conference might not be the right format at this time.
The Conservation Analytical Laboratory (CAL) of the Smithsonian
Institution, the National Center for Preservation Technology and
Training, and I therefore agreed to change the conference to a format
similar to the Gordon Conferences, where a number of invited
specialists freely present and discuss ongoing research issues in an
informal setting. At this colloquium, invited participants, including
conservators, conservation scientists, and engineers, will discuss
current issues in collections environments. Emphasis will be on a
holistic approach, not looking at individual issues in isolation. The
colloquium will take place from September 3 to September 5, 1997. It
is planned to produce a publication on the results of the meeting.
Any suggestions for discussion topics or other contributions from you
would
be greatly appreciated. Please send your comments to
