Ten years ago, when I was the director of a small art museum in Montana, I
traveled to Helena, MT to attend the Grantsmanship Center workshop called
"Program Planning and Proposal Writing" and I still use its basic concepts
today. As a development person, I have always participated as partner with
program people in shaping not only winning proposals, but well thought out
projects. Most program people I know appreciate someone giving critical
feedback during the proposal development stage. This course gave me a
basic understanding of how, as an institution, to "get over yourself" and
clearly articulate your plans.
Another good workshop is offered through the Association of
Science-Technology Centers and is usually offered in December in Washington
D.C. (brrrrr!). It focuses on federal funding agencies, especially
National Science Foundation.
Good luck!
