In response to Suzanne Quigley's question:
>2. What should be the criteria for a good museum WWW site?

As discussed in my thesis on the educational potential of online art
museums, and how the design of these sites can increase this potential, I
developed the following criteria for a "good museum WWW site:"

1. Maintain the integrity of the museum's intent.

2. Maintain the integrity of the museum's physical structure.

3. Maintain the integrity of the museum's collection.

4. Enhance the visitor's appreciation and understanding of the museum.

5. Enhance the visitor's appreciation and understanding of the artwork
displayed.

6. Provide ease of access to the virtual museum's collection in a variety
of ways, depending on the needs of the user.

7. Include sufficient educational materials so that the virtual museum
could be used by art teachers to supplement a class field trip to the
actual museum, or to allow for "virtual field trips" from the classroom.

8. Provide information that is normally not available at the actual museum.

I would be interested in hearing what other criteria people believe should
be considered.

Cheers,

M. Travis DiNicola
