I recently worked on the premises of a display case fabricator who was
using a waterborne urethane formulation called Sand Cure as a supposed
substitute for the tedious process of marvelizing that is used internally
in display cases to prevent off-gassing. Marvel wrap is a self adhering
foil that has to be cut (exactly like adhesive paper) and put in place,
while Sand Cure is loaded in a spray gun and applied. Obviously, there's
a tremendous amount of time saved in spraying.
Is there anyone familiar with this product or other coatings that can
be used to prevent off gassing. Curiously enough, they were applying it
to Medex, which is formaldehyde free (and water resistant) MDF.....so I'm
not sure what they were trying to accomplish in that the material is
considered to be curatorily neutral.
