Our list of maritime and naval museums in Britain and Ireland has been
revised and enlarged again. It now lists 205 museums or museum-ships
and also 245 named vessels. There is a modified URL, which those who
have WWW access will find more convenient:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists-f-j/history-sources/files/mar-museums.html
This is a hypertext index page, with links to the museums list, either
as one large 111 KByte 3280-line flat file or divided into 10 smaller
files of geographically separate regions of the British archipelago.
For those who wish to retrieve these files by anonymous ftp, it is at:
ftp ftp.mailbase.ac.uk
in directory: /pub/lists-f-j/history-sources/files
file: maritime-museums (for the 114168 byte large file)
or the smaller part-files are named: a_intro.mar ... to: j_ships.mar
Our thanks, once again, to Dr Glen Segell of the Department of War
Studies at Kings College London, who kindly set up the HTML menu page
and arranged for all the files to be archived at Mailbase.
Please keep us informed of any errors, necessary alterations or
additions: there is an e-mail link now on the HTML page. All the
information is in the Public Domain, without any guarantees as to its
accuracy, and may be distributed freely.
