> ASSISTANT KEEPER, AMERICAN SECTION
>Definition:
>Responsible for assisting with the day to day activities of the American
>Section ethnographic and archaeological collections, which comprise over half
>the Museum's holdings.
>Responsibilities include a variety of internal and external services as
>outlined below.

>Dimensions:
>Under the direction of the Keeper, the Assistant Keeper manages the daily
>activities and use
>of the collections, provides services to researchers, supervises work-study
>students and
>volunteers, and assists with the maintenance of the Section's cataloguing
>records.
>
>Duties:
> Collections Management: Assist with the general organization and
>maintenance of the
> collections in storage; facilitate movement of collections between
>departments within
> the Museum; supervise ongoing collections computer inventory project on
>Argus database.
>
> Maintenance of Accession and Cataloguing Records: Assist with cataloguing
>of new
> acquisitions and update files (both on paper and on line) in American
>Section and
> Registrar's Office.

> Supervisory Responsibilities: Assist with daily supervision of interns,
>work-study
> students, and volunteers working on a variety of projects involving
>computer-
> inventory, repatriation, and collections research.

> Services to Researchers and General Public: Assist Keeper in providing

> collections for visiting researchers, students, and faculty; respond to

>Qualifications:
> Bachelor's degree with work in anthropology preferred. Minimum of one
>year
> museum experience desirable. Argus skills helpful. Ability to work

> good interpersonal skills, organizational and writing skills essential.
> A general knowledge of Amerindian cultures is preferred.

>The position is a 3 year temporary position dependent on future funding.
