ASSISTANT EDITOR

SALARY RANGE: $27,403-$41,841
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Assistant Editor in the Library of Virginia's
Publications Division, you will research, obtain, and negotiate
rights and permissions for all illustrations published in
VIRGINIA CAVALCADE, the Library's quarterly magazine of
Virginia history and culture, and for the Library's other
historical publications. You will also copy-edit and proofread
VIRGINIA CAVALCADE and, with the magazine's editor and graphic
artist, coordinate layout, design, and picture captions for
each issue of the magazine. You will also administer
international copyright and cataloging data registration;
assist with promotion of Library titles; and perform historical
research and writing as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate should possess considerable knowledge
of picture-research methodologies, of editorial principles, and
of Virginia history and culture, as well as the demonstrated
ability to organize multiple and detailed projects and
schedules; to prepare well-written articles and reports; to
communicate effectively with research and publishing
professionals, authors, and library patrons; and to work within
teams. An advanced degree in U.S. History, American Studies,
Applied History, Library Science, or related field preferred.
Knowledge of computers and appropriate word-processing and
publishing software a plus. Must pass a security background
investigation.
