As of 11:50 am Eastern time, the US House of Representatives has
concluded debate on the Shadegg amendment, which would cut FY 1997
funding for NEH by an additional $12 million.

The vote has been delayed until several additional amendments to the
Interior appropriations bill have been debated. As far as we can tell,
there may be about 10 more amendments (none of them affecting the cultural
agencies) to be considered.

Speaking against the amendment, i.e., to support the NEH, were Reps. Dicks,
Williams, Yates, Skaggs, Regula.

Speaking for the amendment were Chabot, Coburn, Shadegg, Chenoweth,
Hostettler.

Not too late to call.

Andy Finch
