HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS: MAKING SURE YOUR INSTITUTION SURVIVES THE BIG
ONE will be taught on Thursday, October 24 at the University of South
Florida in Tampa. As we approach the end of this year's hurricane
season, thoughts turn to preparing for next year. This one day
workshop focuses on the steps a library, archives or museum can take
to minimize the devastating damage that can be caused by a hurricane.
The workshop will cover the nature of hurricanes, preparedness issues,
recovery after the storm, and making your institution more storm
proof. Dr. Michael Trinkley, Director of Chicora Foundation, will
provide information to help increase your institution's chances of
survival and minimize damage during a hurricane. The workshop runs
from 9 AM to 4 PM; cost is $85 for SOLINET members and $125 for
non-members.
DIGITAL IMAGING: PRESERVATION ISSUES will be held Wednesday, November
20 at SOLINET in Atlanta, GA. Institutions face an enormous challenge
as they grapple with the commitment to preserve and provide access to
information in a wide variety of formats. The increase in digital
imaging projects for library and archival collections raises many
issues related to selection, resource allocation and long-term access
(preservation). This one day workshop will provide an introduction to
digital image technology and the issues an institution must thoroughly
examine before undertaking a digital imaging project. The session will
run from 9 AM to 4 PM; cost is $85 for SOLINET members and $125 for
non-members.
