Well, lest Harry, Bryon, and the rest of the list readers
(thieves wouldn't read this would they?) should be
misinformed, my suggestions regarding security techniques
were directed at the original subject: "small museums."
The ND Heritage Center, to which Mr. Needham refers, is not
small and has all of the security mechanisms he suggests and
more. I certainly didn't mean to imply that the Center
lacked security measures.

As a public facility which writes grant applications much
(not all) of our security is public knowledge anyway. Many
of the 150+ small museums in North Dakota have asked us the
same question (what's appropriate for small museums which
lack staff and $ for security technology, etc.), and have
shared their experiences with us - that's what I based my
advice on. If the original question was asked by someone
representing a museum which COULD put in key card readers,
infrared, glass protection, cameras, etc., the answer would
have been considerably different.
