I had no idea so many people would jump in on this thread. ;-)
The problem is that this library is a corporate library (non-profit, but
business-minded nonetheless). It is not round, so rotunda doesn't work. A
media center often includes audio-visual materials and we have a few
videotapes, but no filmstrips, slides, etc. I like learning center but
my clients would never go for it. I can't say academic anything, because
it is not.
The term "research" apparently turns my clients off as well. I was hired
as an Information Specialist, not a librarian (although that is what
everyone calls me). No matter what I rename it, it will still be known as
the Public Affairs Library (PAL - a bit too cutesy). So far, I like
"Information Resource Center".
