Indeed MONZ have been doing studies in this area...I think Christine
Fitzgerald would be a great contact. You can reach her at
[log in to unmask]
She will also be able to provide you with information on the Visitor
Research conference she attended in Sydney in 1995, organised by Carol
Scott from the Powerhouse Museum. Incidentally I believe Carol is now
convening a Visitor Research Special Interest Group (if I'm not mistaken)
for Museums Australia.

>I've been collecting visitor studies from all over for the past five years and
>I have found virtually nothing on this topic. I do suggest you contact the
>Museum of New Zealand; if anyone has done this kind of study, they are likely
>the ones. Over the past few years, they have carried out a number of pilot
>projects to help plan their new museum and a number of evaluations have been
>done. I would be surprised if some of the studies did not differentiate between
>Maori and Pakeha visitors. Contact Christine Fitzgerald. I don't know her email
>address at the moment, but if you pass a message to Stuart Park at
>Stuartp(at)ikaroa.monz.govt.nz he could give it to Christine.
