The Hawke’s Bay Cultural Trust Inc invites applications for the
following permanent full-time positions. The Trust is one of New
Zealand’s leading regional cultural-heritage organisations with
exhibition facilities in both Napier and Hastings. It is an independent
organisation with a regional population of approximately 150,000.
TRUST EXHIBITIONS MANAGER
The Exhibitions Manager is responsible for the co-ordination, planning
and delivery of all the Trust's museum and gallery exhibitions - both
permanent and temporary - and related public programmes. As a senior
staff member based in Hastings, the successful applicant will report
directly to the Trust’s Executive Director. He/she will manage a small
exhibitions team and must be able to demonstrate a marked degree of
independence and initiative.
Applicants must have extensive museum and gallery, staff, project and
financial management experience. Tertiary qualifications and design
skills would be advantageous, together with high-order interpersonal and
public relations skills. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate
that they have an interest and practical understanding of bi-cultural
issues, as they relate to the cultural heritage sector.
EXHIBITIONS OFFICERS (2 vacancies)
The Cultural Trust also has room for two self-starting Exhibition
Officers with qualities of independence, initiative and design
creativity sufficient to cope with the demands of our high-turnover,
high-standard exhibitions programme. Trust Exhibitions Officers will,
under the direction of the Trust Exhibitions Manager, be involved on a
day-today basis with the research, design, installation, demount and
maintenance of the Trust's museum and gallery exhibitions, both
permanent and temporary. The successful applicants will be expected to
contribute towards the development and delivery of other related public
programmes (e.g. education and publishing). He/she will also have inputs
into the formulation and interpretation of the institution’s exhibition
policies and plans.
Exhibition Officers will be required to work closely - in both Hastings
and Napier - with other Trust personnel (both salaried and volunteer),
consultants and advisers. Formal exhibition design qualifications are
desirable, together with a practical understanding of the bi-cultural
issues as they relate to the cultural heritage sector. Applicants must
also be able demonstrate that they have a sound understanding of
museological principles and practices. Recent gallery and/or museum
experience would be advantageous.
