1300 acre outdoor living history and environmental museum in western
Virginia seeks a couple for a unique situation, and interesting and
involving positions with this new and exciting site. This opportunity
involves two
positions:
1) A manager for the site's beginning 19th cen. historic agriculture
program, as well as a separate 50 acre farm and occasional festival
site. The qualified candidate should have significant background in
farming; inclu
ding animal and plant care, maintenance, equipment operation, and
recordkeeping. Knowledge of 19th cen. agricultural history, animal
drawn implements & vehicles, and a desire & willingness to participate
in costumed his
torical interpretation and teaching are a very important. Prior
experience in other living history site farm programs would be
considered a major advantage. This position will be a full-time and
year round.
2) An education/interpretation position, EITHER for our
naturalist/environmental education OR our 19th cen. schoolhouse
program. Qualified candidates for this position will have background in
living history, teaching, o
r outdoor education, demonstrated knowledge in one of these fields, and
a willingness to develop & implement new programming. Significant
experience in similar living history or outdoor education programs
would be consid
ered a major advantage to candidates for this position. This position
is currently 3/4 to full-time seasonal, but could develop into a year
round position.
While the compensation for these positions is not high, housing and
other benefits could be available for a couple who can fill them.
