I find your VENUS project fascinating, of course I am absorbed in the
study of sculpture--primarily American monumental sculpture of the 19th
and 20th centuries rather than classical sculpture, but I love that work
as well.
I direct the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Gallery at Saginaw Valley
State University in Michigan. We have about 200 of the figurative
sculptures Mr. Fredericks (b.1908) has created. We also have a homepage
under construction. I've worked with the SOS! Save Outdoor Sculpture
survey as a state-wide coordinator and as part of their maintenance
advisory group. In addition, I dabbled in data processing art history
information briefly with a Getty project.
You might want to talk to the Getty Trust, Art History Information
Program about your project. They support innovative ways to make art
history information exchange and use possible. Ask for Eleanor Fink,
director of AHIP.
Please keep me posted on your project, and good luck.
