I very much agree with whoever it was who said on the list a few days ago that
Sage and Jossey-Bass are the two leaders in evaluation publications. Indeed,
their publications probably comprise 2/3 of our collection on the subject.

Among it many excellent offerings, Jossey-Bass publishes a terrific series on
PROGRAM level evaluation - a kind of evaluation seldom used in heritage
institutions (more's the pity). These are occasional monographs (often case
studies) which are practical and down to earth and, in the main, highly
readable with good transfer potential. Look for publications listed with the
identifier "PE", followed by a one or two-digit number.

Sage's publications focus on the many methodological issues of both
quantitative and qualitative research and range from the very practical new
"Survey Kit" (a collection of 9 "how-to" manuals on the various aspects of
survey research) or the equally good "Program Evaluation Kit" to very technical
monographs on quite specific issues in methodology, which require a much better
knowledge of statistics to understand than this kid possesses. Many of us are
interested in focus groups; Sage now has four or five short books on the
subject - all of which are well worth reading.
