General Operating Support (GOS) is the agency's priority program with nearly 80%
of program funds.  About $16 million is available.  Operating support is
continually cited as the most difficult type of funding for museums to raise.
These grants  are nationally recognized achievements of excellence that help
recipients to leverage private funds.  Ninety-four percent of GOS grantees
report that they use part of their grant for educational activities.
