Hi!
My name is Sue Northcut, and I run a small free lance interpretation
company that does a variety of different things. We for instance go into
schools and carry out curriculum based nature keducation in Ontario
schools. We also run interpretive walks, seminars and workshops in a
variety of nature facilities, such as provincial parks and conservation
areas. One of the other things that we have done in the past is to
produce and carry out free standing displays on local "nature" in
museums. Of course, we have been known on occasion to take on large
projects with impossible deadlines! Our latest is a full scale
installation that would fill a 25 foot X 25 foot gallery. My question
is, how much would people consider reasonable to pay to have such a
display into their facility? There are 7 stations; Wetlands, Mammals,
Insects, Plants, Being a Naturalist, Birds, and Conservation Projects.
Each station is divided into three levels, Pre Kindergarten, Kindergarten
to grade three, and grades four to six. Within each display, there will
be text geared towards adults. All of the displays will be interactive
and discovery oriented, but there will be very little electric button
pushing. For instance, we have a build an insect activity for the
prekindergarten insect display, where the participants will have access
to a variety of insect parts: several sets of different legs, different
wings, different heads, abdomens, etc. The object will be to put
together an insect of your own design. In order to assist the
participants in getting a realistic result, each part attaches to the
appropriate joining part by a fastener that is exclusive to that joint
(so that there are no creatures made with three heads and no wings and no
thoraxes, for instance).
Sorry about the length of this post. Any help with what other facilities
are paying or would be able to pay to have this kind of installation into
their facility would be appreciated. I can be contacted either at
