 As I recall, the conservator was remarking about the size of an object
depicted in the photograph; I'm not sure what you mean by "conditions of
display." In all fairness, I should add that this photograph is a
mural-size print made by a custom lab from a transparency which we have
in our collection--although paid for and donated by the photographer. I
don't want to imply that it's an irreplaceable print. Still, why would
anyone, much less a conservator, put a handprint on it?
    I don't recall the "point" being made with any certainty. All I
really recall is my utter astonishment and horror. --David Haberstich
