Hello Peter!
You'll get a variety of answers for this, but might I suggest you
consider our SPCS PrimaBase(R)?
It's free-form, fully-relational, much easier to operate than many
Windows RDBMSs, NSTL certified faster, NSTL certified to operate on a
286 w/1MB RAM, has an install size of about 2MB (14 MB less than either
FoxPro or Access), and uniquely offers integrated barcode printing and
support - which could come in handy tracking museum inventory, etc. It
prints and supports UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, EAN-8, EAN-13,
Interleaved 2/5, and Postnet with Delivery Point - the barcode used in
the U.S. to reduce mailing costs.
It flies on a 386. We're a software house, the only RDBMS publisher to
use its own product to fill orders and track inventory; and the fastest,
most powerful system we have in-house is a 386. And, at any one time, I
have more than half a million fully indexed records flying through it.
Plus, you don't have to believe me - you can see and test it for
yourself. A working trial version of the program is available for
download from our website - and the trial version is network ready for
1-4 nodes (network versions supporting from 5-32 concurrently operating
nodes are available). And, yes, you *can* print barcodes with the trial
version. Any questions or problems, just shout - you've got the boss'
e-mail address!
Best, Mac
