At last!  One I know!

          The scene of the crime in "Murder at the Smithsonian" by
          Margaret Truman is the National Museum of American History.

          The victim was supposed to have been pushed from the balcony
          overlooking the pendulum although I had a hard time matching
          up the description of the facility in the book with the
          actual layout in the Museum.
