Position Announcement
The Louisiana State University Museum of Natural Science is seeking a
graduate student to fill a graduate assistantship in Museum Education
beginning August 1996. The position demands a creative, self-motivated
person who can continue and enhance a new and developing education
program. Responsibilities include all dimensions of public programming,
such as giving tours; hiring, training, and supervising assistants/tour
guides; scheduling public programs; upkeep and rotation of exhibits; and
recruiting and supervising volunteers. This is an excellent opportunity
to gain a wide variety of experience in all aspects of museum
education. The successful applicant must enjoy working with people of
all ages and be comfortable interacting with the curatorial staff. A
biology background is required, and experience in education, especially
informal education, is desirable. A person desiring to pursue a Ph.D (or
Master's) in Science Education is preferred, but persons in other related
areas will be considered (e.g. zoology, botany, paleontology, etc.).
