The New England Registrars' Association and the Museum Computer Network
are co-sponsoring a two day workshop, "Collections Management Software"
To be held at the Museum of Our National Heritage, Lexington, MA October
1 and 2.
Day 1: The Planning Process - assessing your museum's mission, its
resources, potential, and needs for collections management software.
Day 2: Data Entry: What and How. Vocabulary control, data dictionaries.
Speakers include Kathy Jones-Garmil, Assistant Director at the Peabody
Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University; Guy Hermann,
Director of Information Services, Mystic Seaport Museum; Josephine
Nieuwenhuis, formerly of the Art and Architecture Thesaurus, Getty Art
History Information Program.
This workshop is open to all, but is intended to help those museums
starting to think about collections management software or which have
purchased software and are wrestling with how to actually get useable data
into the system.
For non-members of NERA or MCN: 2 days $60; 1 day $40.
