********SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS*********
Deadline: July 15, 1996
VISUAL RESOURCES ASSOCIATION
NANCY DELAURIER WRTING AWARDS
The Visual Resources Association has established the Nancy DeLauier Writing
Awards, named in honor of one of the founding members of our professional
organization. The VRA Executive Board feels that these awards, to be
offered annually, are a fitting tribute to Ms. DeLaurier, who has
encouraged professional development for visual resources curators for many
years.
A committee to administer the awards based upon criteria for application
guidelines has been formed by VRA President Joseph Romano. The Nancy
DeLaurier Writing Awards Committee members are: Leigh Gates (Chair),
Eileen Fry, Jane Goldberg, and Adrienne Varady. The first two awards are
to be offered this year, and the recipients will be announced at the 1997
VRA Annual Conference in New York City. The recipients will be recognized,
if present, at the conference. Two awards will be offered, one each for a
student and a professional recipient. Each award recipient will receive
$200.00 and a one-year complimentary VRA membership.
The committee is issuing a call for paper submissions, 10-20 pages in
length, on a topic related to the field of visual resources. Submissions
should be received by the Chair of the Nancy DeLaurier Writing Awards
Committee no later than July 15, 1996. Papers should be sent to: Leigh
Gates, Slide Librarian, MacLean Visual Resources Center, Ryerson Library,
The Art Institute of Chicago, 37 S. Wabash Street, Chicago, IL 60603.
Visual Resources Association membership is not required for participation.
Previously published papers may not be submitted. In the student category,
applicants must show proof of student status at the time of submission by
including a photocopy of a student ID (either graduate or undergraduate)
with the paper. Papers completed for a degree may be submitted. An entrant
may submit more than one paper provided they are on different topics.
Papers may be co-authored, in which case, co-authors receiving the award
will divide the cash award.
Recipients will be notified by the committee before October 15. The
committee reserves the right not to make the awards if submissions do not
meet the criteria.
