"Museums on the World Wide Web: Creating Your Site", February 21-23,
1996 at the University of Victoria

Due to the positive response we had from this course in the fall, and
ongoing interest in this training, we are pleased to offer
"Museums on the World Wide Web: Creating Your Site" once again, from
February 21-23, 1996 at the University of Victoria.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The World Wide Web enables museums and heritage agencies to reach new
audiences, both across town and around the world. This workshop
explores many innovative uses for Web Sites and provides the
information you need to plan, develop and manage a site. Topics
include:
-   the Internet and World Wide Web
-   heritage activities on the Web: promotion, information exchange,
    programming, research, and merchandising
-   defining your objectives for a Web site
-   technical considerations
-   planning your site
-   HyperText Markup Language (HTML)
-   creating a home page
-   designing and integrating text, graphics, sound, and video
    elements
-   approaches to interactivity
-   ethical, financial, management issues

You should be familiar with word-processing packages and have a basic
knowledge of e-mail and Internet applications. Hands-on sessions are
held in the University's Macintosh Laboratory. You can bring the
text, graphic, and audio materials that you wish to incorporate in
your Web site as a basis for your practical work.
Instructor: David Jakob is an electronic communications consultant
specializing in information systems and training in Internet
technologies. He has developed World Wide Web and Internet
communications and training applications for museums and libraries.
Dates: February 21-23

Fee: $320 Canadian (non-credit only)
Accommodation: On-campus bed & breakfast facilty available at
$60.00/night. Off-campus accommodation information available through
the Program office.
