I have just read a publication from the National Park Service, (Tech Notes,
Windows no. 10 )  that discusses the retrofitting of an unoccupied historic
site with a passive ventilation system to prevent the buildup of moisture
and moderate the fluctuation between outside and inside temperatures.

The solutions are not perfect but given the limitations, they elegantly
protect the building and the mural paintings inside it from wanton neglect.
