Information in postings on this thread relating to public
broadcasting appropriations is not true.
Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) funding has been
appropriated through 1998. Congress is now considering the
appropriation for 1999! Very few other federal programs have this
advance appropriation feature.
I would appreciate it if the authors of the original petition
would correct their posting, in the interests of accuracy.
Reauthorization simply sets a ceiling for any future
appropriation in relation to the budget.
CPB has received appropriations for 1997 and 1998 without any
authorization, since it is not strictly necessary.
There is, therefore, no crisis, and no need to worry list
subscribers needlessly.
Further, I don't see what this issue has to do with museums.
Yours sincerely,
