Hello!
My name is Elise Sherman. I teach part time at the Royal Ontario Museum
(ROM) in Toronto. I am also a Master of Education student at the Ontario
Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto in the department
of Curriculum Studies with a special focus on Learning in Non-School
Settings. My primary interest in enrolling in this program was to study
Educational Archaeology (as I am also an Archaeologist that has taught
Archaeology in hands on programs from ages 8 (grade 4) and up), but I am
interested in Museum Education as well.
I am currently taking a course entitled Computers in the Curriculum. A part
of the requirements of the course is to conduct a study of computer usage in
your particular field of interest. I have chosen to look at computer usage
in Museums for educational purposes in general, and how the ROM uses them
in particular.
I would greatly appreciate it if any museum educators subscribing to this
list could let me know how they are using computers in their museums. I
know that many museums use the Internet as an Outreach tool (I am in the
process of designing an activity for our Web Site). I am primarily
interested in how computers are being used other than for the Internet,
although I would be interested in various philosophies regarding the
Internet and Museum Education (i.e., for advertising, or to educate the
public) as well. I am also interested in snail mail contacts and addresses
where I might write for more information on the subject as well.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Elise Sherman
