Re science and technology centers at universities:

Though not "small," the Lawrence Hall of Science is a part of the
University of California, Berkeley.  Also, a couple years ago the
SMART Center was developed under the aegis of the College of
Education at Lehigh University.

In Virginia, the Virginia Museum of Natural History operates small
branches at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and at
Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg; their headquarters is
in Martinsville, VA.
