The ninth annual Mutual Concerns of Air and Space Museums Seminar
cosponsored by the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) and the American
Association of Museums (AAM), is scheduled for MARCH 25-28, 1996. The
seminar is designed to provide professional staff of aviation and space
museums the opportunity to exchange ideas, knowledge, and experiences
with fellow colleagues, and to participate and network at all levels.
The seminar will be held at the Holiday Inn Capitol (1 block from the
National Air and Space Museum); evening events will be held at the
Museum. The last day of the seminar will include a tour to the U.S.
Marine Corps Air-Ground Museum in Quantico, Virginia.
Some preliminary highlights of the Seminar are:
-- Electronic communications: computer networking, computerizing
collections,digital imaging collections records, museums on-line
-- Collections cataloging/nomemclature
-- Insuring museum objects
-- Strategic planning
-- Revenue sources: fund raising prospects and events, sponsorship,
membership
-- Creating newsletters
-- Legislative update
-- The curator and the visitor--are they so different?
-- Community audiences and education: knowing your community, visitor
surveys, developing educational programs for differing audiences
The SEMINAR registration fee is $215 early; $275 late. The tour of the U.S.
Marine Corps Air-Ground Museum in Quantico, Virginia on March 28 (leaving by
bus at 8 am and returning no later that 3 pm) is an inexpensive option for
$20 (covers bus transportation and lunch).
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Capitol at a discounted
single/double rate of $115.63 (rate includes the current sales and occupancy
tax).
