Re kitty litter for cleaning marble:
Without being a conservator, but married to one, I observe that they use
kitty litter-stuff which is more technically named atapulgite (sp.?).  It
is a very absorbent clay and can be appropriate for poultices, I
understand.  But ask a conservator for real understanding.
