Hi, museum-lers
The Witte Museum in San Antonio is beginning, very slowly, to computerize
its collections, using some ancient program that will, of course, be
replaced with something else "soon." In the meantime I have been trying
to suggest descriptive terms for our textile and clothing collection that
will work for now and, hopefully, fold right into the new software,
whatever it is and whenever it arrives. As I was struggling with choices
for item names that would make sense to anyone using the catalog (and,
more importantly, that I'll be able to remember next month) it occurred
to me that someone else may have already solved this problem, duh! So,
anyway, if you know of any published (or better yet, on-line) list of
standard textile and costume terms (that can be adapted to catalog
descriptions), I'd be spastic with delight to hear about it. Our
collection is primarily western, but we do have a bunch of non-western
stuff as well. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
