You don't mention what exactly you are going
to tell the general public about human skin,
but I am told there is a rather extensive
collection of tattooed Maori skin at the
Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford (acquired by
Capt. Cooke during his travels). Some of
their collection *may* have travelled, but
you can contact them for information.
In a related note, the following appeared in
the Summer 1995 issue of the Registrars'
Quarterly -- you may be able to help her.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles
County, is working on a future travelling
exhibit featuring "intact" (hair, skin,
nails, organs, clothes) caucasian mummies
discovered in China's Tarim Basin, dating
from 2000 B.C. Maren Jones, Registrar,
would welcome advice from anyone with any
experience in this area (is there such a
person?). Please call her at (213)
744-3878.
