The Historic New Orleans Collection
Research Departments are Moving
The Historic New Orleans Collection is moving its library,
manuscripts, and curatorial departments. Reading rooms in the 533 Royal
Street complex will close at 4:30 P.M. Saturday, December 2, 1995. The new
Williams Research Center at 410 Chartres Street will open to researchers on
Tuesday, January 23, 1996, at 10:00 A.M. During the relocation of research
collections and personnel, reference services must be suspended.
The new research facility, named for Collection founders General Kemper
and
Leila Williams, occupies a restored Beaux Arts building one block from our
Royal Street complex. At Royal Street, the Louisiana History Galleries, the
current Raising Cane exhibition, the Williams Residence house museum, the
Museum Shop, and other offices all will remain open.
The new Williams Research Center will enable scholars to examine books,
manuscripts, photographs, drawings, artifacts, microforms, and maps in one
modern facility. We apologize for any temporary inconvenience and look
forward to serving our patrons from the new Williams Research Center.
