Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria

Registration is underway for "Human Resource Management in Cultural
Organizations" (February 14-23, 1996), with Lois Irvine.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
People who work in cultural organizations bring a remarkable level of
enthusiasm and commitment to their work, despite uncertain funding
and high levels of stress.
This course provides an intensive examination of the ways in which
human resources are developed and managed to support cultural
organizations. Topics include:
- organizational structures
- management models and styles
- leadership and decision making
- motivation and stress management
- board/staff relations
- working with volunteers
- personnel policy development
- position descriptions
- orientation and recruitment
- compensation and benefits
- legal requirements, employment standards and labour relations

- human resource planning
Instructor: Lois Irvine consults in human resource management, and
chairs the Canadian Museums Human Resource Planning Committee
