Job posting: Computer Specialist
The Illinois State Museum is seeking a computer specialist to assist with a
project to develop an interactive history exhibit on the Internet. "At Home
in the Heartland On-line" is an electronic exhibit that focuses on the theme
of making choices and offers many innovative approaches to involve the
visitor in meeting people from the past and sharing their lives at a time
when they are making a decision. The theme of decision making addresses
issues that involve cultural values, creativity, and resource management.
computer specialist will work as part of a team that will include curators,
educators, evaluation consultants, computer consultants and a graphic
designer.
The On-line exhibit will be heavily interactive and aimed at children in
grades 3 through 12. Experience in developing activities for children would
be helpful. Internet presentation will involve development of audio and
video. Experience in WWW page development is necessary. It would be
especially helpful if the experience involved development of
museum/education related sites. Familiarity with HTML is required. Unix and
CGI knowledge would be helpful. Computer specialist should be conversant
with the latest technology and be able to think creatively to develop an
educational and fun experience for children.
