The New Museum of Contemporary Art has a Semi-Permanent Collection
with a policy that requires the deaccessioning of each work after
it has been in in the collection from 10-20 years. Our current
exhibition, Temporarily Possessed (which showcases the Collection)
is accompanied by a cataolgue which document the parrallel histories
of The New Museum's Semi-Permanent Collection and its exhibitions/programs.
It includes a preface and curatorial essay discussing some of the
challenges of maintaining such a controversial collecting policy.
