I am in the process of preparing for a career change, having finally
figured out what I want to do with my life--namely, I want to work in the
museum field, specifically, historic museums. Toward this end I am
pursuing a Master's in history, and, if the history department succeeds
in its plans to initiate a museum certificate program, will be earning
that as well. My interests, however, very much include costume history
and the reproduction (for use by interpreters) of accurate clothing for the
context of the site. In this aspect I am very much self taught, and I
wish to rectify that!
Can anyone tell me of costume history programs in the vicinity of New
Hampshire? I would be taking such classes independently of my main
Master's program (I just want to LEARN!) and would be willing & able to
drive to universities in Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
Connecticut would be difficult.
Also, any advice you would be willing to share on getting started would be
appreciated! In addition to my coursework I have been volunteering at a
local museum. As I am coming to the field a little later than most, I am
trying to prepare myself as best I can.
Please post to me directly; I'm sure the list wouldn't be interested!
Thank you!
