Thanks to the responses - all very valid and amusing. I think what we decided
to do was remount the gun to its plaque (the way we received it) - in this
way he won't know that it can be removed and neither will the non-museum
staff who might push for the commemmorative event. This particular gun would
not be hurt, but why set the precedent. The next thing you know, Prince
Charles will wont to come over and fire the King James rifle we have. Its the
precedent I always fear :?)
