Having now wasted half an hour on it, I have to join the naysayers
regarding the Art Center web site (http://www3.artcenter.edu/). It
appears to be directed exclusively to Mac users running Netscape
1.1 over a direct network link. Running Netscape 1.2 (Win/16) over
a 14.4 PPP connection, I wait fifteen minutes and end up with
nothing. I like innovation, I admire Netscape's attempt to push
the standard and abandon the committee approach to the setting of
open standards, but neither has anything to do with this site, which
seems designed to exclude most potential visitors. I assume that the
design is inadvertent (probably Macs and Netscape 1.1 are used in-house
as a de facto standard), but it is unfortunate nonetheless.
Worse, neither Stephen Nowlin's announcement here, nor the on-screen
instructions on the page, make the system requirements explicit. (The
screen instructions declare that Netscape 1.1 is required, failing to
specify the Mac version). This omission seems discourteous at best.
