Does your museum have an Internet connection via America OnLine,
Compuserve, Delphi, Prodigy or another popular on-line service?
Do you have experience with local Internet Service Providers in your area?
Have you received your Internet connection by "piggybacking" onto a
university or college system?
The Museum Computer Network (MCN) Program Office is compiling a list of
museum professionals who would be willing to field an occassional phone
call from a colleague needing advice on how to get connected to the
Internet. (Most requests of this sort received by the Program Office are
fairly basic -- ISDN or T1 connections are *not* the first thing the new
user calls about...)
Please consider helping out by offering to put your name on this
referral list. (Think back to those times when a colleague's advice helped
you out. How about doing the same for someone else? It's not an onerous
task -- just an occasional phone call...)
If you would be willing to offer your expertise over the phone to another
colleague on an occasional basis, please let me know and I will add you to
the list. If your knowledge is particularly strong in one area (i.e., you
are familiar with service providers in NYC, or you can discuss the
pros/cons of AmericaOnLine vs Compuserve) let me know this as well so we
can make the best match of need with expertise.
Please reply to me off-list. Thank you.
