I noticed on another newsgroup that they used the subject headings to specify
the nature of the message
(being teachers, they followed the rules ;-) ). It seemed to work quite
well--advertisements were clearly
prefaced by [ad] in the subject heading, [web] for each new web site
announcements, etc. If you sorted by
heading, you got a nice display like:
[ad]Here I am.
[ad]Me too!
[ad]Remove unwanted ads fast!
[web]New museum web site
[web]Newer museum web site
Somebody's un clasified message
... etc.

This way we could let in career-related messages, supplier ads, conference in
Tierra del Fuego announcements,
and not tie up people's time or money. Otherwise, I imagine Museum-L will
gradually bud off new lists to handle
the unaddressed interests.
Just a thought.
