Hi,
We are desperately needing to move to a computerized ticketing
system for our museum and I'm hoping some of you may be able to
offer some insight.
At the moment, our system consists of a cashbox, a pencil and a
piece of paper (well, it's about that crude) which as you can
well imagine is not an ideal situation when totals have to be
tallied in a last minute rush for one reason or another.
We are beginning investigations into purchasing and installing
a more reliable and efficient system. We would prefer to be
able to purchase an off-the-shelf package if such exists that
would allow us to network the information. In other words, we
are looking to find a package that could be installed on an
average PC workstation (say a 486) which is connected to our
internal network. The idea is that those who need to have access
to ticketing information and sales could directly access it through
some central database to which all the necessary information is
written. At this point we do not require a highly sophisticated
system and are considering having one custom programmed in a DB
programming environment. But before we embark on this, I would
like to check to see what other mid-size museums are using and
whether anything already exists out there.
We really mostly simply need to keep track of ticket sales and
don't have a very complex ticketing system to begin with. What
we need is to have immediate access to the necessary figures at
any given time.
Does this exist as a bundled package? What are museums using
in terms of networked, centralized, computerized ticketing systems?
Any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Best regards,
Kharim Hogan
