I worked at the front desk of a museum for a while, and acting as a "clicker"
when the electronic counter was out of service was one of the more unpleasant
tasks assigned front desk staff. It was hard not to feel like a machine when
doing a repetitive, dull task that could have been done better - and more
cheerfully - by a machine.
