I'm posting this for my friend Allison Buckley at the Rockwood Museum in
Wilmington Delaware. Any responses would be quite helpful.
Rockwood Museum in Wilmington, Delaware is an extraordinary example of
mid-19th century rural gothic architecture, unique in Delaware. The
estate built by merchant banker Joseph Shipley was bought by his nephew
Edward Bringhurst and remained in the Bringhust family until the 1960's.
The museums holds a collection of English Continental, and American
decorative arts relfective of the tatstes of a succession of family
members who lived a Rockwood. Our period of interpretation is 1875-1920.
In 1887 Edith Bringhurst, Edward's daughter, was married at Rockwood in
grand style. We are planning to commerate and celebrate this wedding in
1997 with special exhibits and educational programs. We would be very
interested ingetting in touch with other museums that interpret late
Victorian weddings to find out what educational programs work well at
your institution. Does anyone do living history late Victorian weddings?
