Too true, and I'm guilty. Our off-site storage is 10 miles away (isn't
that equivalent to some East Coast states?) Luckily, we have staff near
the storage building and they monitor for pests, faulty air conditioners,
security breeches, plumbing leaks...the list goes on and on. Meanwhile,
I'm really busy here at the ranch and don't get out to the off-site
storage facility often (at least not without a reason to get me out there.)
One other consideration, our off-site storage puts collections that much
farther away from faculty, students and visiting researchers (which the
university puts much weight in their use come budget time.)
