Some Gay and Lesbian groups in the U.S. embrace the word 'queer' feeling
that they can reclaim the word and void the negative connotations by making
the term their own. I personally won't use it and find it offensive. I
would be very careful about using it in an exhibit, without explanation.
It may be a politically correct term in much of the Gay and Lesbian
community, but it is also offensive to many.
