Volunteer Coordinator--Job Duties
1. Volunteer Recruitment
a. Develop and maintain recruitment systems for obtaining a
maximum number of volunteers to fill Museum departmental and public program
needs
1) Recruitment brochure
2) Media campaign (in conjunction w/ Museum PIO)
3) Other recruitment methods as appropriate
2. Volunteer Placement
a. Contact, set up appointments, and interview prospective volunteers
b. Assign appropriate individuals to specific departments
c. Set up necessary trainings to fill public program needs
3. Volunteer Scheduling
a. Monitor the Exhibit Hall and Naturalist Center docent schedule
to ensure appropriate coverage of the Museum's public areas
b. Maintain system for generating the monthly schedule and daily
sign-in sheets for the Exhibit Hall docents, Naturalist Center docents,
Museum hosts, Circulating docents
4. Volunteer Supervision
a. Monitor daily shifts
b. Stay in touch with volunteers on a regular basis
c. Establish and monitor standards for docent performance
(substitution policy, tardiness, priority areas of coverage, etc.)
5. Volunteer Recordkeeping
a. Maintain efficient data base for volunteer personal
information, volunteer history, and skills
b. Maintain system for tracking volunteer service hours and
service awards
6. Volunteer Recognition
a. Maintain a system of awards and recognition for volunteer service
b. Organize annual volunteer recognition event and other
"appreciation" events as appropriate
