I generally find it more convenient to read the rail news groups using a
reader like tin that to subscribe to a net list. With the latter your mailbox
gets cluttered with lots of mail most of which you will not want to read. You
can read news groups at your leisure, not reading the articles the titles of
which do not interest you and saving those which do.

There are many news groups with a rail interest. The ones with the most
posts are the five in the misc.transport.rail.* hierarchy. Another is
bit.listserv.railroad, which is a news group mirror of the "railroad" list.
There does not seem to be much duplication in posts between
bit.listserv.railroad and the misc.transport.rail.* hierarchy. There is also
fr.misc.transport.rail.misc, for articles posted in French.

Sometime in the next six months or so, when I have a chance to do the
work involved, the Technology and Transport Museums Sector of the Canadian
Museums Association will be going on the net in a number of ways.
